Kirtan Sohila Paath 1.0.4

This is the night-time prayer recited by Sikhs before bedtime. Three Sikh Gurus - Guru Nanak, Guru Ram Das, and Guru Arjan - have contributed a total of five shabads to this bani, reflecting on the pain of separation and the joy of union with the Almighty.

The first three shabads were revealed by Guru Nanak, the fourth by Guru Ram Das, and the fifth by Guru Arjan Dev. Considered the most melodious Naad ever recited, it enhances one's aura to a level of protection that dispels negativity over vast distances.

In times of danger from any source, when seeking to envelop oneself in the electromagnetic field of the Earth for protection, the recitation of Kirtan Sohila is recommended. It is lauded as a remedy for insomnia.

The hymns hold significant religious and artistic value. Each shabad conveys profound spiritual insights:

• The first shabad envisions the merging of the individual self with the Ultimate Reality.
• The second shabad emphasizes the oneness of the Ultimate amidst the vast diversity of scriptures, teachings, and philosophies.
• The third shabad discards external acts of piety and rituals in favor of a cosmic portrayal where nature itself becomes an altar for worship.
• The fourth shabad underscores the importance of the divine Name in transcending suffering and cycles of rebirth.
• The fifth shabad exalts life on earth as an opportunity to serve others and accumulate divine grace, leading to enlightenment and eternal bliss.

Kirtan Sohila is commonly recited before cremation ceremonies in Sikh traditions following a death. This bani is found on pages 12 to 13 of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the revered Sikh Holy Scriptures.
